[K-Culture] Go travel with Me by Korean Subway! (Virtual Travel)

by Jenn101 2020. 9. 6.

Hello , everyone!

It's Jenn again!

Are you craving for travel abroad?

Due to this Covid-19 situation, lately, we all can't move around freely as we did.

Thus, today, we are going on a short trip by taking a KOREAN SUBWAY!

Aren't you excited?

Here we go!

outside the subway station

today, we are going to Centum City Station to go to the Shinsegae department store in Busan.

The place where we are right now is Jangsan Station, the place where the ASEAN HOUSE is.

When you first enter the subway station, you can see the hallway.

It depends on each of the stations, but there were few people on that day since it was a weekday.

Facilities inside the KOREAN SUBWAY?!

There are several facilities such as drinking fountains, ATM machine, and SmartPhone Picture Printer.

Moreover, there are photo booths for people who need to take an ID picture , paid lockers, and the convenient store.

Most of the subway stations in Korea have those facilities basically and even there are more various ones like the underground arcade in the station where is a heavy foot traffic area.

+) It was not in the Jangsan Subway station ,but due to the Covid-19, I could find a Mask Vending Machine the other day.  It seems to be able to buy mask only with your credit/debit cards.

It was really intruiging for me to find it out but in the same time , i felt sorry that this pandemic is still going on and even this kind of vending machine was made by someone. I truly hope that it's going to be removed as the people can live without mask sooner or later.

Going back to the subject, one of the special things in Korean Subway is the 3 different wifis for the different mobile carriers.

Usually, Korean use the SK Telecom, KT, LGU+ (mobile carrier)  for their cellphone, and according to this, the Korean subway provides different wifis for the people who use different services.

Even you can use these wifis when you come and travel by taking the subway.

Let's buy a subway ticket now!

Subway Ticket Vending Machine

Like you do, most of the koreans usually use their transportation/ debit/ credit card for the transportations.

But, right now, we are on our trip here and usually people buy their tickets on their trip, so let's buy the one-time ticket.

For today, we are gonna buy a one-way ticket to the Centum City Station now.

If you go closer than you can see the screen for choosing the line for your destination and buying the ticket.

In korea, mostly, these kinds of public services are provided in 4 different languages, Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese.  Today, I chose to buy a ticket in English which lots of people speaks in .

Here's a fare table for the subway.

As you can see, cost for the transportation cards are cheaper than the tickets'.

Additionally, you can get the transfer discount with your transportation card when you transfer to bus or any other transportations!

So , if you have any plan to travel Korea more than a month, then I highly recommend you to buy a transportation card at the any convenient stores around you.

We are in Jangsan station now, and to get to the Centum City Station, we need to take the green line , line number 2!

If you are done checking your destination and line to take, touch the line 2 on the screen!

On the next page, you can see the whole stations of line 2 and choose your destination station .

I chose 'Line 2' and 'Centum City Station'.

If you choose your destination, then the screen is going to show the fare you need to pay.

Finally, I get my subway ticket and we can take the subway!!

there's a subway turnstile around the ticket machine usually.

If you put your ticket on the machine, and can enter right away.

It was still the afternoon , so there were not many people in the subway .

As it gets near to Centum City Station, it gets more crowded since the Centum City Station is well known as the place where 2 different representative department stores are in the same place.

In the end, I could get to the Shinsegae Department Store, and I could buy some of Croffles there ( Croffle is a waffle made with Crossiant)

How was the trip today?

Due to the Covid-19, We couldn't go farther or more various places for the trip, but I think it was pretty okay!

Especially, it was really interesting for me to buy a subway ticket in English.

When I tried to buy a ticket on the machine, since it was my first time to buy it in English ,so I made mistakes.

Everytime I did something wrong with that , the machine kept saying something to me in English loudly, even most of the people in the station suddenly looked at me to see what's going on haha!

( I think it's because it's rare to hear that kind of English guide voice in the Korean subway station.)

Anyway, though it was a really short trip in this covid-19 sitaution, but it was pretty exciting experience for me to try!

I hope you guys enjoyed this trip with me and hope you to try  traveling by subway once the Covid19 gets over and you can come to Korea!

Thanks for reading this today!
